Honoring Our Sacred Earth with Reiki

Have you ever entered a room and totally forgotten what you came in for? Or opened ten tabs on your computer, only to feel overwhelmed and not finish any of them? Maybe you’ve been waking up tired, even after a full night’s sleep, or feeling like your thoughts are all over the place. If any of that sounds familiar… you’re not alone.

In the busyness of everyday life—between work, family, social media, errands, and just trying to keep up—it’s so easy to feel scattered. Like your energy is pulled in every direction. Like you're living in your head, or on autopilot, instead of feeling present and connected.

When we lose touch with ourselves, we often lose touch with the Earth, too. And yet, she’s always right here beneath us, steady and patient, waiting to support us.

Reiki is a beautiful way to come back—back to our center, back to peace, and back into relationship with the living energy of the Earth.

In my Reiki practice, I’ve seen again and again how offering Reiki to the Earth doesn’t just support the planet—it helps us, too.

With Usui Holy Fire® III Reiki and Karuna Reiki®, we have beautiful tools to come back into balance.

These practices help realign our energy, especially through the Earth Star Chakra—a powerful center that often gets overlooked.

In this blog, I’ll be sharing how the Earth is alive and conscious, just like us, how to tune into the Earth Star Chakra, and simple everyday Reiki practices to help you reconnect with the Earth.

Whether you’re just starting your Reiki journey or you’ve been practicing for years, I hope this is a gentle invitation to come back home—to your heart, to your body, and to the Earth.

The Earth as a Sacred Living Being

We often walk through our days without realizing that the Earth beneath us is alive—conscious, wise, and deeply connected to us. She’s not just physical matter; she’s an energetic being, vibrating with life, just like we are. And when we take a moment to really tune in—to step outside, breathe deeply, feel the ground under our feet—we start to remember that we are not separate from her.

We are part of her.

When we feel out of balance—maybe we’re overwhelmed by stress, anxious for no clear reason, tired even after resting, or just emotionally off—it’s not just something happening inside us. The Earth feels that, too. And when the planet is hurting—wildfires, polluted waters, rising temperatures—we feel it in our bodies, our nervous systems, our spirits.

Our energy reflects hers, and hers reflects ours.

One gentle, powerful way to reconnect and restore balance is by tuning into the Earth Star Chakra1, an energy center located about 24 inches (61 cm) beneath your feet.

This chakra anchors your energy into the Earth. When it’s activated and aligned, you may feel a tingling in your feet, a steadying calm in your body, or a deep sense of belonging and peace. It’s like being plugged back in—your whole system starts to respond.

As Earth energy flows up through the Earth Star Chakra, it nourishes each of your chakras, one by one.

You may find yourself breathing more easily, with a sense of calm settling in, and your heart opening. It’s a beautiful reminder that healing doesn’t have to be complicated—it can start with a simple moment of grounding and presence with the Earth.

Everyday Reiki Practices to Connect with the Earth

When we remember this deep connection we share with the Earth, it becomes clear that caring for her is also caring for ourselves. And the beautiful thing is—we don’t need to wait for a perfect moment or a long retreat to do it.

Reiki offers us gentle, accessible tools to come back to this relationship in small, meaningful ways each day. Whether you have five minutes in your backyard, on a walk, or even in your living room, you can use Reiki to ground your energy, calm your mind, and return to balance.

Here are a few simple ways you can bring Reiki into your everyday life while honoring and reconnecting with the Earth:

1. Go Barefoot on the Earth (Earthing)

  • Stand barefoot on grass, dirt, sand, or rock.

  • Place your hands over your heart or by your sides.

  • Take deep, slow breaths. Activate Reiki (use the Power Symbol if attuned or placed).

  • Send Reiki through the soles of your feet into the Earth. Visualize a flow of love and light grounding you and nourishing her.

  • Stay 5–15 minutes or longer, tuning in with gratitude.

2. Reiki for the Earth Star Chakra

  • Sit or stand comfortably. Bring your awareness to about 24 inches (61 cm) below your feet.

  • Envision a glowing brown or burgundy orb: your Earth Star Chakra.

  • Place your hands palm-down toward the Earth, draw the Power Symbol or any Karuna grounding symbol (if placed), and invite Reiki to flow downward.

  • Say internally: “I am grounded. I am safe. I am connected to the Earth. I offer Reiki in gratitude.”

  • This helps realign your energy and reconnect with Gaia’s support.

3. Breathe with the Trees

  • Stand near or gently rest your hands on a tree.

  • Activate Reiki and visualize your breath connecting with the tree’s breath—its oxygen and yours moving in harmony.

  • Offer Reiki to the tree and let it share its grounding energy with you.

  • Whisper a quiet thank you, or place your hand on your heart.

4. Send Reiki to a Body of Water

Visit a lake, river, ocean—or visualize one in your mind.

  • Hold your hands out, draw symbols if you’re attuned, and send Reiki into the water.

  • Say a blessing: “May these waters be healed, blessed, and protected.”

  • This is also a beautiful practice to do from a distance.

5. Earth Honoring Meditation

I found this beautiful Whole Earth Healing2 meditation from the International Center for Reiki Training.

You might begin to feel more grounded, centered, and whole as you move through it.. Start by meditating on light filling your entire being. Then, in your mind’s eye, begin to travel—seeing:

Light filling your room.
Filling your neighborhood.
Light in your community.
Then your bioregion.
Then your continent and soon the globe.
Going up, see the beautiful earth.
The moon.
The brilliant sun.
Light through the moon and earth.
Surrounded and suffused with peace and love and light.
Rest.
Rest radiant in this global love and light.
Then come back down slowly.
Light and love in the sky.
Light over and through your continent.
Your community.
Your room.
Light in your self.

Know that peace and love surround and fill the earth and all its beings.

All are one in love and light

So Be It.

Taking the Time to Thank the Earth

Life moves fast. Between work, dishes, emails, kids, pets, errands, and everything else we juggle, it’s easy to forget to pause. But even just a few moments of presence—stepping outside, taking a deep breath, feeling the ground beneath our feet—can shift everything.

Taking time to thank the Earth, to be still with her, is a simple yet powerful act. It reminds us that we’re not just here to survive—we’re truly here, alive, and connected to something greater.

When we bring this awareness into our Reiki practice—especially by connecting with the Earth Star Chakra—we invite grounding, clarity, and healing to flow through us. This chakra gently brings our energy back into alignment, and when we work with it regularly, we begin to notice subtle but powerful shifts: calmer thoughts, deeper sleep, steadier emotions, and a stronger sense of connection to both Earth and self.

So whether you’re standing barefoot in your backyard, placing your hands on a tree, or sending Reiki to the planet from your meditation cushion—know that it matters. Your presence matters. Your practice ripples out.

Sending Reiki love and light to you, and to the Earth. May we all continue to root, rise, and heal—together.

Sending love, peace & light,

Liz xxx
